Description
On January 29th, 2015, The American Trauma Society’s hosted the first of two Trauma Registrar Educational Webinar on External Cause Code Decision Making. This webinar covered ICD-9-CM external cause codes. The lecture series was presented by Holly Hedegaard, MD, MSPH, an injury epidemiologist and the manager of the Injury Statistics Program in the Office of Analysis and Epidemiology at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS). Part 1 is ICD-9-CM External Cause Code Decision Making. Upon completion of the ICD-9-CM External Cause Code Decision Making Webinar, the learner will be able to identify the fundamental elements required to identify the correct injury external cause codes, achieve familiarity with ICD-9-CM decision tree process for coding external cause codes, achieve familiarity with the CDC external cause code matrix, and achieve familiarity with how NTDS maps external cause codes for identification of trauma injury type. Part 2 is ICD-10-CM External Cause Codes; Date to be announced in early 2015. This webinar qualifies for 1.5 Hours of CSTR CEU's (Category III - Coding and Scoring Concepts).
