Bicycle commuting has become an increasingly popular mode of transportation across the United States, especially in urban areas like Boston, Massachusetts. Over the past decade, Boston has experienced a significant rise in bicycle ridership, prompting greater attention to rider safety. One growing area of concern is distracted bicycle riding. This session will explore recent trends in cycling injuries, highlight findings from a study published in the Journal of Trauma Nursing, and examine local laws and national data resources related to bicycle safety.

Sandra Strack Arabian is the Trauma Program Director at Tufts Medical Center, a level I ACS verified Trauma Center in Boston, MA . She is the past chair of Graduate and Undergraduate Healthcare Management programs at Cambridge College in Boston and is now faculty at Bay Path University. She has over 30 years of proven, successful, leadership skills in organizational management, healthcare management, data management, research and Injury Prevention. Sandy has authored and co-authored many trauma related and Injury prevention articles published in peer reviewed journals, and is a chapter co-author in a hospital-based injury prevention textbook and has presented her work in many national and international trauma related forums.
