Amanda Truelove, Jane McCormack, and Anna Newcomb are three trauma professionals from various states, each in unique roles. Their mutual interest in exploring secondary trauma among trauma registry professionals led them to collaborate on a mixed-methods research project. This partnership not only fostered strong friendships but also generated valuable insights into secondary trauma in an often-overlooked field. Presenters:
Anna Newcomb, PhD, MSW, LCSW, is a past president of the American Trauma Society and an original architect of the Trauma Survivors Network. Prior to her current position as the Education Director for Inova Health System’s surgical simulation center, Dr. Newcomb was Inova’s trauma research manager, working closely with researchers and trauma registry professionals. In addition, Dr. Newcomb facilitates stress management debriefings for Inova staff in response to critical incidents on and off campus. Dr. Newcomb has worked in the emergency department as a trauma social worker for 30 years and continues that work part time.
Jane McCormack, RN, BSN, CSTR, TCRN has had a long career as a trauma program manager. She is currently serving in that capacity at Long Island Community Hospital a Level III center located on eastern Long Island. Jane has served as an instructor for the ATS Trauma Registry Professionals Course, past Co-Chair for the ATS CSTR Leadership Advisory Council, and in many other capacities supporting Trauma Registry Professionals in their careers.

Amanda Truelove, RHIA, CSTR, CAISS, AHIMA approved ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer is a TQIP Coordinator, Data Quality Analyst with St. Louis Children’s Hospital, & Registry Lead for Regional One Health. Her passion has always been service to others. She began in trauma as a combat medic in 1996; continuing service leadership working as an EMT, Revenue Cycle Director, teaching for Cambridge College, and accepting volunteer roles to help educate trauma registry professionals; She serves on numerous American Trauma Society (ATS) and State councils. She is decorated with numerous awards for her military service and considers the networking opportunities with colleagues in the registry her reward for the volunteer contributions she makes towards advocacy and training of trauma registry professionals.
