October is Fire Safety Awareness month! To help highlight this important topic please register for this FREE webinar. Denise Beatty will provide an overview of how the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) works to reduce the risk of fires and resulting burn trauma. She will provide fire data and safety resources that you may share in your jurisdiction. Fire Prevention week is Oct. 8, through Oct. 14, 2023, and the 2023 theme is “Cooking Safety Starts with You.”
The CPSC works to save lives and keep families safe by reducing the unreasonable risk of injuries and deaths associated with consumer products and fulfilling its vision to be the recognized global leader in consumer product safety.
CPSC’s Division of Field Operations, known as “The Field,” serves as the eyes and ears of the agency. Our dedicated staff are located throughout the United States. We are responsible for a wide variety of activities including: investigating product safety related incidents, collecting samples of hazardous or non-complying products, inspecting companies that manufacture or distribute consumer products in commerce, marketplace surveillance, conducting outreach education activities, liaising with federal, state, and local government officials who also work in the product safety and injury prevention area, overseeing e-commerce activities to ensure compliance with product safety regulations, and ensuring recalled goods are removed from sale and do not re-enter the marketplace.

Denise Beatty, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Director of State & Local ProgramsDenise is responsible for establishing and implementing programs that promote federal and state cooperation for the purposes of protecting the public from the unreasonable risk of injury associated with defective or dangerous consumer products. Denise serves as the liaison contact and works with state and local governments to conduct compliance, enforcement, education, and outreach activities to expand the reach of the CPSC brand. Denise joined CPSC in 2000 as a compliance officer in the Office of Compliance and Field Operations. She developed programs to monitor industry conformance to voluntary standards and negotiated recalls under Section 15 of the Consumer Product Safety Act. In 2003, Denise became director of state and local programs. Before joining the CPSC, Denise worked for seventeen years in the insurance industry for Aetna Casualty Insurance Company and Travelers Property & Casualty Insurance Company.
