We've all heard the old adage, garbage in garbage out, right? What we know in the world of trauma registry is there is no room for bad garbage in our data. Join Susan Kennedy, RN and Melissa (Missy) Sorensen, BS, MSN, RN, CEN, CSTR, CPHQ to discuss the importance developing and maintaining a connection with your medical examiner as a means of high quality data abstraction. Without the final diagnosis from the medical examiner, we are left with inadequate data which inadvertently under represents our patient population as far as injuries and ISS scores. Explore the basic principles of coding for penetrating trauma, the process for reviewing and abstracting data from the medical record, and the importance of sustaining a connection with your medical examiner.
