Description
Violently injured patients are frequently accompanied to the hospital by law enforcement officers or interact with law enforcement officers after arrival. Join Dr. Erin Hall, MD, MPH, to discuss how unregulated law enforcement presence may have unintended negative consequences including degradation of the patient-provider relationship, reinforcement of negative stereotypes, and erosion of community trust in the health care system. Health care professionals are also obligated to protect public safety and there has been a crisis of unsafe working conditions with increased workplace violence, particularly in emergency departments. This talk will attempt to explore and present the evidence at hand on the impact of these interactions from multiple stakeholders’ perspectives as well as potential ways forward for optimization.
