The American Trauma Society (ATS) and The Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) have come together in the development of the annual National Trauma Awareness Month Webinar Series. An Injury Prevention webinar was presented on May 24, 2023 at 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM ET - "Shifting The Driving Culture to Distraction Free"
May is not only National Trauma Awareness Month—it also begins the 100 Deadliest Days for teen drivers (Memorial Day through Labor Day). Join Impact Teen Drivers as we discuss unintentional injury, death rates, and causes; the importance of including the community in our outreach focus; and learn how Impact Teen Drivers is addressing the unintentional number one killer of young people in America—preventable car crashes, particularly those caused by reckless and distracted driving.

Michelle Johnson is an affected family member, speaker, and teen driver safety advocate. She lost her oldest son Connor in a car crash caused by reckless and distracted driving. Michelle wanted to make a difference, and the Impact Teen Driver (ITD) mission–to develop, promote, and facilitate evidence-based education and strategies to save lives and reduce injuries and fatalities caused by reckless and distracted driving–aligned with her purpose.
As an ITD Education Outreach Coordinator, Michelle works passionately to engage, educate, and empower teens and parents to make safer and smarter choices as drivers and passengers. She works tirelessly to realize the Impact Teen Drivers vision to create a widespread culture shift among teens and their influencers where reckless and distracted driving are recognized as unacceptable behaviors and outside of the social norm.
